Space Dragon 2007

"OK then."

submission: Space Dragon 2007
date: January 1, 2007

Well I saw your request in the RR crew, well I was a member there but I pretty much left, though I at times come and review some of the stuff there. So consider yourself lucky as this is an extremely seldom caase =P

I've not seen that preloader before, but it's sure good and makes a nice impression on the movie, with neat effects and such.

OK, it starts off with Bahamut walking into a room... looks like a workplace or something, requesting those "Motherfucking snakes on a motherfucking plane", looking at some manuscript, which makes it amusing seeing it points out it is a Flash cartoon and he is only an actor. Damn me if it wasn't a manuscript he was looking at.

And then there comes a random scene with these different game and internet characters counting down to the new year. These seems a bit random, and could have been done a bit better though that would take away some of the "Amateurish" feeling it seems to have.

The part after that was the part that I found funniest. You seriously have a shitload of internet references, this one parodying sluckyobutt from YouTube, one of the most hilarous movies ever, and that parody was damn great.

After that he said stuff about him should be in the future, which is a tad weird, as I doubt he is supposed to know it.

I don't know what the scene with the airship passing the window was all about, and especially not what the "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" scream was all about, was it the fact that he missed the new year or something? I seriously have no idea why he was so pissed.

The voice acting was fine, there's no buzzing or overtones, except for some of the parts in the countdown when the mic is crappy, what I would like to see is some music at parts, like when he enters the room with usual elevator music, it makes a little more feeling that you really are there and not only look into the room.

The graphics were OK, but you like, have a bahamut sprite with a shadow and make some bouncing tweens without even animating any motorics at all, not even animate Bahamut's lips- the animations were kinda kept to the minimum.

And the airplane and several other things were a tad.. MS Paint-ish, I have yet to see an airplane even familiar to that kind of mess with circles and letters.

And then it just ends... leaving a feelng that you missed some of the movie, I guess there are several loads of inside jokes in all these movies which people who don't know you guys miss a bit.

Overall good movie, with a little lack of animation and sound.

Author's Response:

Have you seen the first episode of Futurama? If not, then that's why you havn't understood some parts of the flash. Good spotting the Sluckyoubutt reference which was actually referring more to Williwowza's Sluckyoubutt parody.

The reason why I said NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO at the end was because I found out I wasn't in the future and was still in 2007 when I thought I was in the future.

Yes, I know about the bad graphics and lack of animatuion, but I got lazy.

Thanks for the long review SBB. :)

"This is a good one."

submission: -Rain-

But if it was unfinished why didn´t you finish it? This seems just like a clip from a movie.

So alright, after the question comes a review.

I don´t think it was neccesary writing "INSTRUMENTAL" as a subtitle for the instrumental part since it´s obvious that it is an instrumental part of the songs, and the subtitles shouldn´t begin before the dude began singing, but if you really wanted to have something there you should put the title of the song on it instead of just "INSTRUMENTaL" though you posted the title in the movie.

It is good having the quality set on automatic, most movies doesn´t have this, but you should be able to choose different quality settings though right clicking lets you choose every quality type except "Auto".

Alright, the subtitles were impossible to see most of the time because a lot of it is hidden and taken away, so it seems like you used a glitchy script or something of that kind.

I would like to see some other colour on the guy singing than white. A dark colour would fit the mood of the flash much better, a grey colour would made it fit the theme really well without the gothy feeling from black.

Also what´s up with his eyes? It seems like he just has one moon-shaped eye when he is in profile. Remember that you usually can see the eyes of a person in profile except the excact 90 degree kind, but he wasn´t seen that way.

I liked how you changed it from sunshine to rainy and dark, it really makes the movie much more stylish.

I think the mouth was a bit overdriven, you never sing with the mouth changing that much, especially not when you´re singing a song of this kind. Remember though to not have the mouth too closed... it is hard finding a right size.

Please put a bit more details to the background. When I saw the houses I think you were just plain lazy seeing the other parts of the movie is much more detailed and worked on. After the movie goes forward it gets less and less detailed. tsk tsk.

The man seems soul-less when he doesn´t have anything in his eyes- they´re just white holes. But this is maybe made to fit the feeling and mood of the movie- still I like it when it looks like they did much work on it.

And the music you used isn´t that great... it doesn´t have a good melody or any special plan on it.

The movie doesn´t seem like you did much work making the parts fit together... at times something happens and then something totally different happens, and there is no storyline or anything like that whatsoevevr.

There it was said, it is an overall good movie. Still there are things that shouldn´t be there and things that obviously should. Either way, keep it up!

Author's Response:

I accept with you about the detail, I was realy lazy and this was this... Practise flash or something. I was trying to do some good lipsync. The subtitles we're okay when I looked at the flash from my computer. I was realy dissapointed when peapole complained about the broken subtitles, I've been trying to fix this but it wont fix. This movie is 2 months old so then I had the worst style ever. I started to change my style about a month ago and started putting on more detail, so if you look at my flashes that have '+' on them, you can see that I actaly can do alot more detail than this. And I'm happy to say that you took your time to write this much for this small flash :)
Good luck!

"Ya this is really good, but well..."

At first I doubted you didn´t use any kind of 3D program... but it might actually be possible though it would take a shitload of skill, effort an time.
Your 3D work here was amazing, but there are certain things except for graphics that´s important for a movie.

Although these effects and the happenings are overwhelming and amazing they are really poorly set together. I could see no story in it whatsoever, it was more of a lot of battlescenes put together in a random order. If you had subtitles or something like that in the bottom, preferably optional, which shows excactly what´s happening, or what the different characters are, it would be easier to watch and therefore a lot more enjoyable.

It gives no sense when it first is a supehero fighting a big robotic beast followed by persons riding different kinds of... futuristic things...!

So I suggest also having a stronger story put into it!

Still I guess this is more of an art-movie than a story, because the movie really catched thr song and played at just the same tempo with nice effect for certain riffs and beats! You did an excellent job at syncing!

I see it´s only made up on neon colours, and therefore it´s hurting the eyes if you watch it too much. You should be able to see it in a normal way too so it´s not hurting your eyes so goddamn much. But that would make a lot more work for you, and take a lot more time.

The movie is kinda small, which does make it harder to see everything, but it doesn´t take so much screen with that it is actually a good size. I belive that if it was bigger it would have hurt your eyes even more from the neon colours.

And in the start, why would there be a sun when the "world" is clearly robotic? There are a lot of such glitches here. (I only try suggesting additions to make me as helpful as possible here, so don´t take me wrong, I loved the movie, but I just want to give as much help as possible to make this movie even better) The woman in the beginning was clearly not robotic or anything like that as a contrast to the whole other city. However it is a nice contrast with some *real* drawing to show you´re not only cheating with the effects.

The music used was excellent, it kinda asked to get made a music movie of. And the result was good, you made it look like one day in a robotic city.

I think the beast you had there was really cool, but at times it is like it´s only repeating itself over and over, and it really doesn´t have anything better to come up with.

Okay then, scores and reasons:

Graphics: 9, the 3D-like style was excellent, but it hurts the eyes as I said before, and the creatures are really basic and could have had a lot more details. The graphics are however great.

Style: 6, By style I don´t mean graphic-wise, I mean the way it went forward and the story, which I told was very loose and certainly not very thought of.

Sound: 10, the music really is good! I have probably never heard this kind of electronica before, and it inspired me and probably many other musicans to make other kinds of music.

Violence: 10, It´s fast, "pseudo-bloody" and true violence, I have nothing to say against it.

Interactivity: 8, a play and replay button is all you need, but there should be options to have different things I mentioned earlier.

Humor: 3, I find no blatant humor in this, but some parts made me smile, and someone might think of violence-humor as funny as hell (Well I didn´t!)

Overall: 9, these graphics are amazing, and the art-kind of movie is one of the better movies ever released to Newgrounds.

Now, I hope you´ll respond or at least see this review because it took a goddamn while, and I had to watch it probably ten times, and it´s a complete waste if you don´t see it =/

Ahh well, bye for now :)

The Christmas Hats

"Hey"

submission: The Christmas Hats
date: December 24, 2006

Thanks for using my music! Just remember that if you´re gonna update it, credit me as SBB, my real name XD

I loved the concept of it, the hats beating each other was maybe a bit too repeatative for a battle, and I don´t know why the owners would just sit there and watch the hats coming.... stupid hats owners. Also I would like to know a bit more about the different hats and why some hats didn´t know what christmas was and some not.

Great graphics, a bit slow so it get boring, but else it´s a really good christmas movie.

Author's Response:

Thanks! I'll remember to update your name next time I use some great audio clips from you. Thanks a lot for the review and thanks for the great music.

Santa... to Die, Part 1

"Holy shit"

date: December 22, 2006

this has to be one of the better flashes in the portal!
I loved the way you told the story just like a *real* movie, and the way the story was told, I also liked the different styles you animated through the Flash, from 3-D to really simple style.

Haha, I can imagine how you was dissapointed... a whole year being nice and that disapointment... horrible.

Can´t wait to see you next one!

I liked the card, but what was the point? It was just a snowman and some Jingle Bell music and stuff... but no movie or interactivity.
Well I´ll vote 2 at least becasue it´s Norway.

"Whoa"

date: December 8, 2006

I doubt I hhad any idea about what I saw there and thought it would be one of these (Grr) movies (Hitler and stuff), at least this was a movie.

Hmm... I don´t know, at times it was drawn really bad and at times it was great, the story was just weird (I do NOT watch all these movies), and the music... deja vu?

Meh, I found this entertaining, so i´ll vote a low four. These movies seems invincible to blams, so thanks for the protection point! (:

I just don´t know what all these characters does in the whole series of weird movies and in some cases, pictures ->:-(- and therefore I´ll just look like a questionmark to those who review it and tell loads of stuff about how it has gone so far, and what they think about it....

Good work either way, this I actually liked 0.o

Author's Response:

"I doubt I hhad any idea about what I saw there and thought it would be one of these (Grr) movies (Hitler and stuff), at least this was a movie."

Have you watched the other two ATWI80D flashes of mine?

"Hmm... I don´t know, at times it was drawn really bad and at times it was great, the story was just weird (I do NOT watch all these movies), and the music... deja vu?"

Meh, it's just my laziness. I'm not a great artist, but sometimes, I'll try and draw better stuff. And yes, Sex on a Beach song had to be on this flash.

"These movies seems invincible to blams, so thanks for the protection point! (: "

That's because this movie was created by me, Bahamut! :D

"I just don´t know what all these characters does in the whole series of weird movies and in some cases, pictures"

You mean me, Afro_Stud and the rest? They're characters that I like to use in quite a lot of flashes of mine. They do random things, lol. XP
